The first hardware device from OpenAI—which some leaders describe as ambitious enough to surpass smartphones—has revealed more details about its design and expected price. One notable feature is a facial recognition system akin to Face ID, allowing users to make purchases. Besides answering questions like ChatGPT, the device is designed to provide proactive suggestions based on environmental observations and user behavior.

The product is described as mobile yet capable of functioning as a smart home hub.

Not Just One Device

In addition to the smart speaker, OpenAI is reportedly developing two other product lines: smart glasses and a smart desk lamp. However, these devices are still in very early stages.

If commercialized, the smart glasses would place OpenAI among companies heavily investing in AI wearable devices, alongside Apple, Meta, Google, and Samsung. However, sources suggest that production of this product is unlikely to occur before 2028.

Regarding the smart lamp, OpenAI has developed a prototype, but it’s unclear whether the company will bring the product to market.
